Greetings. The source package from Xilinx leaves a bit to be desired as far as being easy to use and integrate into your Linux distro. I have uploaded a patch that includes a 'README' file and simplifies building and installing. I also wrote an init script that does the 'start|stop|reload' type stuff that all the Linux distros do. This patch will work with the Linux 2.6.13 vanilla kernel. ...

Hi, I've read through the archives for notes and hints on installing ISE 7.1i for Linux. I got curl, portmap, motif, etc all installed. The installer now comes up. However, when I enter in the Registration ID, it keeps telling me that it's invalid. Does ISE 7.1i use the same install code for Windows as it does for Linux? A Xilinx rep told me they are the same. Any help would be...

I want to simulate the GT_CUSTOM swift model under VCS. I work for a Linux software house and would like to offer a "Hello, World!" tutorial for FPGAs. The idea is to keep it simple and low cost. The Digilent Basys board looks good for cost but not for (Linux) simplicity. I'd sure like to avoid the windrv module and the parallel port cable. Does anyone know of a way to program the Basys board over the USB cable using Linux? thanks Bob Sm...

Hi all, I'm working with ISE 6.3 under Windows right now, I'd like to use it under Linux but I'm holding back because MXE will not work under Linux. Any solutions? I will be using Suse 9.3 (when it's released). From the simulator, I only need the ability to simulate my design with a testbench, I don't need TCL, etc. My design uses placed LUTs and FFs, no synthesized logic. I did lo...

I am trying to install the linux webpack ISE (either 9.2 or 10.1) on a 64 bit linux (ScientificLinux 5.2) system. It seems designed not to install. I tried it with the linux32 command, and even with /bin/csh copied from a 32 bit system. 64 bit processors are cheap enough now (this one with the motherboard was less than $200) that it doesn't make sense to disallow it. One post I saw me...

I am looking to get started with Linux on a Microblaze. There seems to be a few companies out there doing it and Xilinx has a Wiki site. What exactly is the difference between the Xilinx and the others. Presumably you have to pay for the others, although I thought Linux was supposed to be free. So I would of thought I should be able to get hold of the source even if I dont get any support. Any...
