Hi All, I am trying to understand how to use the picoblaze soft-core. I have a verilog program that uses a counter and stops at a predicted value ( positive or negative). The value of this counter I would like to display on the LCD display of my SPARTAN 3AN. Is there a more simple way to do this than the picoblaze route ? If picoblaze is the best way to go, can someone please explain to me...

Hello. I just started looking at Picoblaze. Has anyone completed a Picoblaze and DDR RAM implementation? Or does anyone have any strong opinions on this issue. My main goal is to store program data on RAM and access it with Picoblaze. I see OpenCores has a DDR/SDRAM controller... Thanks for your constructive ideas.

I've a general question regarding PicoBlaze IP core from Xilinx: If I'm using PicoBlaze as a controller on my design: Who programs the FPGA which contains PicoBlaze? Normally e.g. a uP loads the FPGA with the neccesary configuration file. But if the FPGA itselfs is the controller (e.g. PicoBlaze), how do I get the configuration file into the FPGA? Silly question, isn't it? Thanks for you...

If I were you I would use the Picoblaze to talk to the A2D. I'm not sure how good at VHDL or Verilog you are, but the Picoblaze is an easy to use softcore CPU availible on the Xilinx Website. You'll write assembly instructions and connect the output/input port on the Picoblaze to the A2D. Xilinx has excellent app notes on how to use the Picoblaze. Good Luck.

I am interested in adding a "busy" signal to the Input/Ouptut port of the Picoblaze. This will allow me to add a Wishbone wrapper to the picoblaze and allow me to used some free wishbone cores from Opencores.org. Since the picoblaze is written using xilinx primatives the VHDL code is a little hard to follow. On to my question: Has anyone put together a block diagram of the internal signa...

Hi, in a test implementation (ISE 8.1) of a Picoblaze core in a XC4VFX12-10 device the maximum frequency is about 110 MHz (55MIPS). In the Picoblaze product brief (http://www.xilinx.com/bvdocs/ipcenter/data_sheet/picoblaze_productbrief.pdf) the performance is 102 MIPS -> 204MHz. Anybody has an idea how to increase the maximum frequency on our Picoblaze test implementation? Is there any

Hi all, I'm doing few tests in these days with the PicoBlaze and it seems to work just fine. Now, in my project, where a Spartan3 has to deal with a DSP through a serial spi-like communication to reply on different request that may arrive, do you think could be woth using with a PicoBlaze as a supervisor? I mean, the FPGA could reveive a request to read from its inputs, or to write on its ...

Hi all, I'm designing a C compiler for the PicoBlaze processor. The compiler is a subset of the C language, but is quite good. I called the C compiler PicoC :-) I'm an FPGA designer and I want to use this compiler for my job. I think is very interesting to have a small microprocessor in an FPGA that you can program in C! Are you using PicoBlaze at moment? do you think you can help ...

Hi all, I have downloaded a VHDL version of PicoBlaze. I can synthesize it with other VHDL modules, my I prefer the use of Verilog, so the only way I can use it with them is through EDIF black-box. Anyway, life could be better if I can use a verilog version of PicoBlaze directly. Does anyone know if it exists? Thanks in advance, Santiago.

My design has 2 PicoBlaze processors on a Spartan-IIE sharing a common IO bus (PORT_ID, IN_PORT, OUT_PORT, READ_STROBE, WRITE_STROBE). I am planning to use simple priority based bus arbitration. Now I am trying to figure out the minimal changes I need make to the PicoBlaze core in order for the IO logic to be bus aware. It needs to assert BREQ to request the bus, wait until BACK, use the bus,...
