It been over a year since we produced our first Spartan-6 board and we now have 3 main products, Raggedstone2, Drigmorn3 and Drigmorn4 based on Spartan-6 and now ramping up into serious volumes. Spartan-6 has become available in large numbers in lot's of variants and we are start to make other die size variants of these products available. Not to forget our customer base in the Virtex marke...

Despite trying all the read/write options on a Spartan 2 design I am moving to Spartan 3, The Spartan 3 BlockRAMS always seem to take one more clock to valid data output from a write from the other side. I'm using ISE 6.3 and have tried inferring the RAMS with the VHDL source and using the core generator, no change. Is there something fundamentally different between Spartan 2 and 3 blockR...

Hi I would like to design a DDR controller for a Spartan 3. I have tried using MIG 1.5 but without much success. It claims to work with all Spartan 3 devices, yet I have found it to be unreliable and not generate designs with all Spartan 3 devices. Can I ask how others go about with DDR. Do you design your own cores, buy a 3rd part core or use Xilin cores? Thanks Jon

hi all, I am new to the LVDS stuff. I am going to implement a LVDS transceiver on XC3S400. I got the XAPP622 application note (talk about using LVDS on VirtexII and VirtexII pro) from Xilinx sites. I am wondering if the same idea could apply to Spartan 3 (I know Spartan 3 runs slow than Virtex)? Is there any SER-DES core avaliable now for Spartan 3 (I know there is none now on ISE....

Hello, I want to set up design environment for my new Spartan-3E FPGA starter kit. I have downloaded ISE WebPack 9.2 and the service pack 9.2i SP4. To my dismay, when I want to point to my target device at the start or later(Set Properties for project), the Family drop-down, doesnot show of all the things, Spartan-3E. These options are available: Some Coolrunners, some CPLD's, Spartan 3A ...

I have a couple of questions about the board layout of the spartan3 and platform flash. In the spartan-3 family guide there is a schematic for programming the spartan-3 from a platform flash on page 33. To put the spartan 3 in master serial mode you need M0-M2 (mode pins) as 000. In theory the spartan-3 and platform flash should step through the flow chart of boot up mode. Do I need to th...

Hello, Few days back, I got a good help from this forum about CPLD programming. I have succeded in making my own design based on a microcontroller to configure a spartan 2 as well as to program XC95108 CPLD. Now I am moving to Spartan 3 and struggling with it. A very good document from Xilinx about Spartan 2 configuration is XAPP188 (Specifically table 7 on page 11) which lists steps to be ...

I have dug out an old board with Spartan-II XC2S100 chip and I could use it, if only I could get some documentation for it. It looks exactly like this: https://support.dce.felk.cvut.cz/nms/img/hwzoo/spartan-ii-1.jpg It has "Insight" and Xilinx logos on it and marking "Spartan II Demo Doard" at the lower edge. Board revision is 3.0, which seems to be important. I have managed to find s...

So, after being assured Spartan 3A should be around for a while (Thanks, all who commented) I made a board for a Spartan XC3S50A in the 144 lead package. I am using an SST25VF010A serial SPI PROM for configuration. I have my own reset monitor to drive the PROG-B/ pin, and that seems to be working correctly. I have it set for the master SPI mode, with M set for 001 and VS set for

Hello. Im a new masters degree student and i want to have a kit at home. I need help on selecting the right development kit for me. What are the difference in capabilities for the Spartan 3, Spartan 2, Spartan 2E. These three types seems like the boards that have a reasonable price for me. - Thomas

Hi everyone, Just ordered a Spartan 3A ExtremeDSP Starter Kit. It comes without a programming cable, but I figured I could re-use the cable from my trusty Digilent parallel cable from the Spartan-3 kit. The pinout is certainly the same (6 pins single header). But I've just noticed that the Digilent documentation states there is 2.8V on the connector while the new Spartan-3A DSP board provi...

A couple of years ago we've done some Spartan II development with Xilinx ISE tools (V5.2.03i). Now we want to do a design with a Spartan III but our tools are out of date or have expired. We've tried the Webpack 8.1i on a 3GHz Prescott with 1GB of RAM and found it very slow. Hence my question: What is a good system setup for reasonable comfortable Spartan III development? What kind of PC do...

Newbie alert... I would like to drive my Spartan 3 design with inputs from a 5V source. I've been unable to find anything in the Spartan 3 datasheet that lets me know if this is do-able. (The signal will be coming fom the parallel port on my laptop, which I suspect probably is 3.3V but I want to be on the safe side.) Any tips are appreciated. Thanks, -Nevo

I have a system with a Spartan-3E with an SPI flash. I have been using the xspi.exe DOS program to configure the SPI flash. But now I'm wondering if the new ISE IMPACT 9.1 or later is able to configure the SPI flash though JTAG? I saw in XAPP974 for the Spartan-3A that it was possible at least for that device. But is the same possible for Spartan-3E?

The connections between XCF and Spartan are according the application note for 3.3V output (INIT_B) to 2.5V input CE/RES. Programming the Flash and booting from Flash works fine. Programming the FPGA works only, when we have the same code in the Flash. When we try to load a ...

Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to use the ESL approach for building applications on Spartan 3/3# starter kits? There is a special kit by XIlinx that can be used for ESL and DK /PDK suite from Celoxica. Is it possible to add PSL/PAL support for the Spartan 3/3Estarter kits so that Handel-C can be used to build and debug microblaze? Thanks Nirav
