What I've done is wire a PHY eval board to a digilent SParten IIE board,
and use am ethernet-lite core from the edk WITHOUT a softcore processor
- i.e. just put a wrapper around the ethernet soft-core and drive the
bus signals directly from a processes intimately associated with the
data I was trying to communicate.
I my I was doing only UDP broadcast of data I acquired within the eval
board for consumption by an off-board test computer.

Has anyone used the Ethernet add-on module for the Digilent Spartan3
board?

I want to back into design, and instead of doing the same old
uart/SERDES design I did years ago, I wanted to do something more
challenging.
